NB: Oracle Academy introduces IT training program

[FREDERICTON, NB] - The world’s largest business software company, Oracle, will be providing the Oracle Academy advanced computer science program at New Brunswick universities and community colleges, post-secondary education, training, and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault announced today.

“New Brunswick is dedicated to helping develop a highly skilled workforce that can address the needs of the growing IT sector,” said Arseneault. “By partnering with the Oracle Academy, we can prepare our students for the current and future workforce, right here in New Brunswick.”

The advanced computer science program provides students with access to world-class technical curriculum and hands-on experience with Oracle’s industry-leading database and middleware software.

Becoming a certified Oracle technician can cost industry and individuals up to $10,000 per person. It will now be offered as part of regular IT programs at many New Brunswick educational institutions where students may graduate from their programs with Oracle certification, at no extra charge.

Participating institutions include the University of New Brunswick - Fredericton campus; University de Moncton - Campus de Shippagan; CCNB - Campus de Bathurst; NBCC - Moncton campus; NBCC - Saint John campus.

“Oracle has been committed to advancing education for over a decade, and our programs now support more than a million students worldwide,” said Clare Dolan, vice-president, Oracle Corporate Citizenship. “The Oracle Academy will help New Brunswick students develop the skills needed for 21st century careers in IT industry.”

More than 850,000 students in 91 countries currently benefit from participation in the Oracle Academy. Oracle software is widely used by industry, and the program will help students who participate in the Oracle Academy develop business and technology skills. The goal is to give graduates a competitive advantage when entering the workforce.

“While helping to promote more applied programs at, and facilitating the link between, IT employers and our post-secondary community, we are promoting self-sufficiency and moving forward on our Action Plan to Transform Post Secondary Education,” said Arseneault.

The Oracle Academy and the Oracle Education Foundation’s initiatives reach more than 1 million students worldwide. By partnering with schools, districts, and governments that believe in early career preparation, the Oracle Academy helps students develop the technology and business skills required for 21st century careers.
