[BATHURST, NB] — The contract to build a multi-purpose workshop at the Collège Communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB), Bathurst campus, has been awarded to Gloucester Construction Ltd. of Tracadie-Sheila for $3.8 million. Minister of State for Seniors Brian Kenny made the announcement yesterday on behalf of Minister of Supply and Services Ed Doherty.

“This addition to CCNB Bathurst will provide students with a greatly enhanced learning environment while producing energy savings as a modern, efficient and environmentally friendly facility,” said Kenny. “With the award of this contract, construction will begin immediately, and we expect that the new training space will be available for the 2011-12 academic year.”

The 1,473-sq.-metre (15,850-sq.-foot) addition will provide training space for courses in plumbing, pipefitting and other construction trades. The additional space will make it possible to accommodate 100 more students at CCNB Bathurst, raising its capacity to 1,000 seats.

“This is an important step in increasing CCNB student capacity and making the connection between our post-secondary education system and our province’s changing labour market needs as we move towards self-sufficiency by 2026,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault.
