The CEO of the Portland construction company Cianbro told government and industry that the super highway would cut over 300 kms off the drive from Saint John to Montreal.

With at least 6 exits, the 220-mile highway would begin in Calais and terminate in Coburn Gore, Vigue explained. Investors and tolls would fund construction. Cianbro has carried out research on the concept but the $2 billion project would be open to tenders.

The Saint John Port Authority supports the project. Jim Quinn told CTV News the super highway would be faster for shippers and tourists.

Jim Hughson with the NB Road Builders & Heavy Construction Association said Vigue’s main obstacle is getting support from the government and the people in Maine.

Protestors had demonstrated outside a packed gymnasium in Dover-Foxcroft, ME when Vigue addressed a public meeting about the highway.
