MQM Quality Manufacturing Ltd. of Tracadie-Sheila submitted a winning bid of $13,021,500.  Four bids were received for the April 27 tender that closed May 31.

"Construction is expected to begin in early July on this important piece of infrastructure," Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams said June 25. "The Centennial Bridge has served the region for many years and will now undergo needed repairs. It is good to see New Brunswick companies successfully competing for a major contract that brings work and economic activity to local communities."

The bridge is 45-years-old and requires maintenance and upgrading. The work comprises structural steel repairs and upgrades required to bring the bridge to current standards and will include painting of the southern approach spans and the main truss and deck truss spans. The project will be carried out over three years.

Overweight permits have been restricted on Centennial Bridge until the repairs are made. No closures will take place on the bridge during the Miramichi Irish Festival.
