Bigfoot Systems of Mahone Bay (Nova Scotia) pioneered the system that allows developers to introduce a pre-engineered, bell shaped footing system beneath traditional cardboard sonotubes but the company has made the move to introduce its own 10-inch tubing system that gives protection against ground water, soil or moisture.
A federal government loan of $131,250 was provided through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency for its development.
Contractors will see savings in time and money during installation and, here in Springhill, it introduces a new line of work at CanAm Ropak where Bigfoot Systems outsources its manufacturing.
"This is a company that builds on a good idea, taking it to the next level and we are proud to support it," Cumberland-Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley MP Scott Armstrong said. "Our government believes in supporting innovative companies with a globally-competitive focus."
The federal loan, Bigfoot CEO Jack Fickes says, will let the company discover new marketing opportunities for the company.
"We see great potential out there and this support will help us tap into that," Fickes said.
Bigfoot established its footing form to be a leading-edge technology for pre-engineered footing systems and is the only code-evaluated form for construction tubes that meets or exceeds North American building codes and is the only producer of plastic footing forms for concrete foundations in Atlantic Canada.
