The (Newfoundland & Labrador) Department of Transportation and Works issued an advisory on April 25, noting that blasting will take place up to four times per day at the site adjacent to the hospital, and will continue until the end of June.
Residents in the area have been notified by the contractor and communications are ongoing with officials at Carbonear General Hospital to ensure staff are always notified in advance of blasting activity, the advisory stated.
The 18,500 square metre, four story, 250-bed long-term care facility will have space for recreation therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and worship. It is expected to be ready for its first residents in late 2014 or early 2015.
