Exploits Valley Air Services, which operates an Air Canada Express flight between the two communities, is being given $263,625 to market, promote and increase the frequency of its daily flights, according to a news release from the government department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development.
The flight is being added to meet a need from increased industrial activity, said Keith Hutchings, minister of the department.
“The creation and growth of this route is in direct correlation to the industrial and commercial activity ongoing in Labrador,” he said. “Raising the profile of this service will increase passenger traffic, leading to additional opportunities and spin-off benefits for the airline, the business community and both regional airports.”
The funding comes as part of the government’s air access strategy that aims to increase air access in Newfoundland and Labrador.
