“While April 28 is a day set aside for us to respect and honour those killed and injured in the workplace,” said Mary Lloyd, President of Pictou County Injured Workers Association, “we must all recognize that surviving family members and injured workers live with the tragedy of these deaths and injuries every day of the year, year after year.

“Lives are changed instantly and forever as the result of a workplace injury.”

Guest speaker at the ceremony will be Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, who was recently appointed the RCMP’s chaplain co-ordinator for Nova Scotia.

Matheson will speak on the emotional impact on families and the community from injury and death in the workplace.

The ceremony will get underway at 6 p.m.
