For over 40 years, Mobile Valve has offered its customers the most comprehensive valve management solutions in the industry.
The Mount Uniacke company recently took home top honours as "Business of the Year" at the East Hants & Districts Chamber of Commerce's AGM and awards gala.
Jamie Towriss, manager of Mobile Valve, says he was pleased to see the company recognized and notes that the seeds for success were firmly planted by its founder, his father.
“He drove home the fact that if the customer needs you, you go. It didn’t matter if it was the weekend or Christmas Day, you went. And, for us, the customer is still number one.”
Although the commitment to customer service remains as strong as ever, the company, which was acquired by Source Atlantic in 2001, has experienced significant change in other areas.
“At first, we provided services to specific markets like pulp and paper, power generation, and municipal services,” says Towriss. “We’re still working in those areas, but we’ve evolved over the years to include mining, oil and gas, forestry, food processing, and we do a lot of work with the Canadian Navy.”
This evolution has also led to enhanced relationships which have been vital to the growth of the company’s reputation as a leader in the industry.
“We work closely with valve manufacturers all over the world to train our staff to really know the products so that we can address any issues that may arise,” he says. “This level of specialization allows us to offer a one-stop shop of valve services supported by the manufacturers themselves.”
Mobile Valve and its 25 staff are proud of what they’ve achieved over the years and look forward to what is yet to come — especially the opportunities presented by the $25-billion Irving Shipyard contract.
“Our work with the navy for the past number of years has allowed us to develop a real specialty in submarine repair and in working with a surface fleet,” says Towriss. “We also have a specialized clean room to carry out overhaul for critical submarine components.”
Of course, having the right equipment is only part of the picture. Having the necessary expertise is another.
“Certifications are essential in this business,” he says. “And we have everything in place. We’re certified by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, we work to defence industry standards, have up-to-date ISO certifications, and more.”
Unparalleled customer service, specialized skills and equipment, and the most up-to-date industry certifications have all contributed to Mobile Valve’s success, but perhaps its greatest asset is its highly dedicated team.
Towriss says “We have a great group of people who are committed to what they do, who take pride in our products and our services, and who want to remain competitive.”
