[HALIFAX, NS] – The company behind the redevelopment of the Citadel Hotel has partnered with international hotel chain Hilton.

Silverbirch Hotels and Resorts President Steve Giblin announced Thursday that the site at the corner of Brunswick and Cogswell streets will feature a new Homewood Suites by Hilton hotel, as well as a Hampton hotel.

The two hotels are billed as offering a different experience – Homewood Suites aims at longer term stays and Hampton provides a more mid-priced hotel stays.

The site will also feature an apartment building complex, as well as ground level retail shops and a restaurant.

"We feel it's going to be a great entrance into downtown Halifax," Giblin says. "(They'll) really be the first major set of buildings that will be brand new coming in (from) Brunswick Street, kind of a gateway into downtown Halifax."

The development has been approved for 13 storeys for each hotel and 18 storeys for the apartment complex. The hotels will have a total of 316 rooms. Construction is scheduled to be complete in the spring of 2014.
