[HALIFAX, NS] — Saint Mary’s University’s Sobey School of Business – Business Development Centre in Halifax is currently offering a federal wage subsidy to all New Brunswick businesses and non-profits to hire a person with a self-identified disability.

A $12 per hour subsidy is available for full-time employment for 52 weeks — $21,840 for each placement. Employers must contribute $4 per hour plus the mandatory employment-related costs.

“This works out to a cost of just $5.84 per hour to them… a pretty fantastic deal to have a highly skilled full-time employee for a whole year,” says Brett Matheson, project coordinator, Skills Development & Training, Sobey School of Business – Business Development Centre. “We take care of posting positions as well as recruiting candidates, providing each employer with a pool of eligible candidates to interview.”

The hiring deadline is March 31 so employers are being encouraged to post soon to ensure ample time for recruitment and selection.
